Sprouting green lentils without a sprouting kit.
Sun Mar 22, 2020 4:13 pm
We are experiencing a difficult time at the present. With the Coronavirus raging, it is important that we eat fresh food full of minerals and vitamins. There is a cheap and easy way to add above to our Diet. That is, sprouting green lentils. All you need is a jam jar, a rubber band, a square cut from a dishcloth and green lentils.
Put 3 tablespoons of lentils into the clean jar, fill it with water.
Stretch the dishcloth square over the jar and secure with rubber band.
Put somewhere in your kitchen and leave over night.
Next morning discard the water through the cloth (keeping the lentils inside) and fill up with fresh water.
Put jar up side down on sink drainer so that water can drain off.
Refill and drain the water like this morning and evening.
After 3/4days you will notice that the lentils have tiny tails.
Now you have lentil sprouts ready to eat. No more rinsing necessary. At this point I put the jar with sprouts into the fridge. Good for at least a week. When you have eaten half of the sprouts, start the process again, so that you have a continuous supply of fresh sprouts. Sprinkle over salads, put in sandwiches, over potatoes - anything.
The important things is to eat something fresh every day.
Just have a go.
Should the little tails grow too long the lentils become less tasty.
Don’t waste just cook them with your vegetables.
